Preventive and interceptive orthodontics has thepurpose of preventing or alleviating occlusal problems that might be happening in the transition period from deciduous to permanent dentition. In thespectrum of available procedures, we can includefrom the prevention of interproximal cavity, withthe intention of maintaining arch length, all the wayto two-phase orthodontic treatment, where the firstphase is performed in the mixed dentition with theintention of promoting increased skeletal changes.1However, the latter has elicited debates and discussions in the orthodontic community, especially inrelation to Class II treatments.
